The creative minds at PopCap, the studio behind popular games such as Plants vs. Zombies, Zuma, Peggle, and more, are auctioning various items for charity. The auction runs through July 12th and every seven days a new set of up to nine items will be up for sale with initial bids starting at $1. All proceeds from the sale of the items benefit two non-profit organizations: the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the USA and the SpecialEffect in the UK.
Auction items include original concept sketches from Plants vs. Zombies, Bookworm, and Peggle, one-of-a-kind game-themed ceramic sets, personalized sketches and much more. For those unfamiliar with the Plants vs. Zombies game, it is a castle-defense genre game, where the players defend their houses from attacking zombies by using defensive plants, all with different powers. The game has won numerous awards, including Game of the Year. You can find out more about the game here.
Out of the numerous items up for auction, two caught our eye. The first is the Plants vs. Zombies Peashooter Costume, shown here:
The listing describes the costume as “one of 3 in existence designed by Randy Carfagno of Randy Carfagno Productions in New York City and appeared in New York City’s Village Halloween Parade in 2009. All you’ll need to complete your evergreen ensemble is a verdant leotard!” This item was part of the first set of items from PopCap sold on eBay. The final selling price for this gem? A mere $260.99.
This week, another costume is up for sale, this time for the Peashooter’s nemesis, a Zombie, shown here:
The description on this item notes that it is also one-of-a-kind. You have to wonder what would happen if the winners of these two items meet each other at a Halloween party…
You can see the other items for sale this week by visiting the PopCap Items for Sale page located here. If you would like to see the previous items from the same seller, click on the navigation link on the left side of the page, under the tab “Show only” and click “Completed listings”.
Time Magazine rates the Plants vs. Zombie third under the Games section of its list of the top 50 best iPhone apps. Number one? Angry Birds. Let’s hope the creators of Angry Birds sell some of their original concept pieces on eBay soon!
Editors Note: The zombie avatar used on the eBay homepage was created with the Zombatar, found on the Plants vs Zombies site. The site recommends using it as your Facebook or Twitter profile picture, or to scare your mom.
