On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from the previous week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.
Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday February 10, 2012
Searches for Madonna and Madonna tickets were up last week, especially after her hugely successful Super Bowl half-time show. She will be touring the USA in the fall, which will allow the Material Girl to express herself once again to adoring fans. Head over to eBay Tickets and use the cool “event finder” if you are interested in looking for tickets to see her or any other concert or sporting event.
Speaking of the Super Bowl XLVI, the New York Giants pulled off a stunning fourth quarter victory over the New England Patriots. Fans geared up, coming to eBay to search for Super Bowl memorabilia and Giants gear. We saw a spike in searches for jerseys from Giants’ receiver Victor Cruz, known to celebrate his touchdowns by doing a victory salsa dance. When Madonna was asked in a pre-Super Bowl interview if she had ever seen Victor’s moves, she broke into a little salsa of her own. You can watch it here.
Finally, we saw an increase in a number of searches that we can only imagine are related to Valentine’s Day. There was a spike in searches for mens denim shirts, mens sweaters, and Valentine’s Day Decorations. As usual, we recommend all you last-minute shoppers and procrastinators head on over to eBay’s Valentine’s Day page, to quickly locate and purchase gifts. Just stop procrastinating. Now.
Selected high-value items listed or sold on eBay this week:
Please note this a sample of high-value items on eBay. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it is a representative list.

Finally, we saw a spike in searches for Jason Wu for Target. Jason Wu is First Lady Michelle Obama’s favorite designer, so when clothing and accessories designed by him arrived at Target stores nationwide, they immediately sold out. Savvy shoppers turned to eBay to search for the elusive items from the Jason Wu for Target line. A similar thing happened last year, when Missoni for Target searches spiked, indicating another popular designer brand had sold out at retail stores. As we said then, we think eBay reflects the public’s enthusiasm for hot designs such as those by Jason Wu for Target, and are happy to offer shoppers the ability to buy authentic, in-demand items, anytime.
