We sometimes talk about cars and other car-related remarkable listings, on eBay stories. We even once talked about a converted ’62 Porsche coupe BBQ, which had purists up in arms (although a lot of us really liked it). But it is not often that we find a one-of-kind Porsche race car, like the one we found today.
Today’s remarkable listing comes via eBay Celebrity (and suggested through emails from various eBay Motors folks who thought it was worth a look). We’re talking about the Porsche “Rennsport Edition” Cayman S Interseries Racecar:
This stunning car was built specifically to commemorate the Rennsport Reunion IV event that took place at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in California last October. We’ll tell you a bit more about the event below, but first here is a description of this car from the listing:
The one-off “Rennsport Edition” design pays tribute to Porsche’s famous race cars and drivers and the equally iconic circuits on which they raced and won. The entire top of the Rennsport Edition Cayman S features “ghost” images of legendary race tracks from around the world, the stripe on the hood has a list of Porsche factory drivers and other notables from over the years while the roof stripe has a list of all of the factory race cars ever produced. The commemorative No. 4 Cayman was driven throughout Rennsport weekend by Jack Baldwin.

The reason it was appropriate to unveil this race car at this particular race is obvious once you understand what this event is about. This was the fourth edition of the Porsche Rennsport Reunion race, which celebrates Porsche’s motorsport racing history, bringing cars from around the world to a single spot to compete. Aside from the cars, the guest list is a veritable who’s who of legendary drivers. The porsche.com website gives a sampling of the drivers including “James Weaver, Porsche 962 driver for Dyson Racing -Daytona and Sebring winner); Gijs van Lennep, Dutch Porsche 917 and 911 driver – won Le Mans with Helmut Marko and the last Targa Florio with Herbert Mueller; Chip Robinson – IMSA champion with Al Holbert in a Porsche 962;” and many more.
The cars include a wide variety of Porsche’s most historic racing models from the nimble 550 Spyder of the mid-1950s through the mighty 917 and 956/962 of the 1970s and 1980s to the highly successful RS Spyder of the last decade.
Finally, and importantly, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this car will go to support the Children’s Tumor Foundation, which dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by the neurofibromatoses (NF).
