Outwit, Outplay, Outlast, but don’t get Outbid

The catch phrase for the reality TV Show Survivor is quite, you know, catchy: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast.  It sounds like the kind of phrase that could apply to the World Series of Poker, but in the case of Survivor, the locale is more tropical, and the contestants a lot less sedentary, engaging in challenges demanding intense physical activity.  The show’s premise is relatively straightforward: a group of strangers is left to fend for themselves in a remote location, and they work together to find shelter, food, and so forth in order to “survive” the game (read: not get kicked off the island).  In addition, they compete in various challenges to try to win immunity from expulsion.  Why go through all this trouble? The sole survivor wins a cash prize of $1 million.

The series, originally based on a Swedish program called Expedition Robinson, is in its 25th season, and shows no signs of getting stale or slowing down.  The latest output of the Survivor franchise is called Survivor: Philippines, and the finale aired on December 16.

Today’s remarkable listing comes straight from the show to you.  It’s this Survivor Philippines Immunity NECKLACE:

Immunity necklaces are a big deal on the program, allowing the person who has it to be immune from being kicked off the show. The listing describes the necklace:

“Survivor contestants worked diligently, powered through obstacles, solved numerous puzzles, and expressed their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual dominance as they competed against their teammates to win protection at tribal council. Amongst the holders of this prized necklace were contestants Carter, Denise, Penner, “Scoop”, Abi and Malcolm. This necklace is signed by castaways who won immunity. Materials include silver, plastic, steel, string and tin.”

The bidding currently has the necklace at $8,600!  The last time we talked about Survivor, in the post called Voted off the Island, again, an immunity idol sold for $4,411.  It seems the immunity necklace is worth a lot more to fans of the show than to the one-time contestants on the show.  Note that ownership of the immunity necklace does not give you superpowers or allow you to outwit and/or outplay the grim reaper.

Fans of the current show may be interested in bidding on this cool experiential item, a chance to go to the Survivor S26 Finale & Live Reunion Tix + Meet & Greet w/ Jeff Probst & Castaways:

Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal (and take photos!) with the heroes and villains of the show?  Here is your chance.  The listing notes what you’ll win:

“You and a guest will attend the Survivor Season 26 Finale & Live Reunion Show in New York. Your package will include a tour of the Survivor set – a masterful recreation of Tribal Council – led by host Jeff Probst. You will also meet the all Castaways from the season. Photos can be taken throughout! The date of the show is TBD but will most likely be scheduled for May/June.”

The bidding on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has already reached over $7,600, so it is not for those with big hearts but empty wallets.  But if you want a chance to schmooze with Jeff Probst without actually having to be a contestant on the island, this could be just the thing.
