Neil Armstrong’s 1967 Corvette

On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from the previous week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.

[Editor's note: Our weekly search roundup has been on hiatus for the last month due to technical difficulties on our end. Apologies to our regular readers.]

Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday May 11, 2012

We were saddened by the news that children’s book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak passed away last week. Following news of his death, we saw spikes in searches for both Maurice Sendak and Where the Wild Things Areas people looked for his most famous book and other items related to the writer.

We saw an increased number of searches for Khloe Khardashian once news leaked out that her eBay store would open for business with more of her unique items. Several of her pieces showed up on our Top Shared list, including her black draped long sleeve dress, and this Alexis Halter Print Maxi Dress. If you want to see everything being sold by Khloe, take a look at her store here.

The Avengers movie finally came out, and with it numerous searches for items associated with the superheroes, such as Thor’s Hammer and Captain America’s shield. We also saw searches for Iron Man and Hulk, rounding out the cast of characters seen in this film. Interestingly, an Avengers item sat atop our Top Shared list for much of last week, the USB Flash Drive 8GB The Avengers Assemble (Iron Man Hulk Thor Captain America).

It could be that all the searches, above, were hoping to find one of these cool USB items.

And in case you hadn’t heard, Neil Armstrong’s Corvette was being auctioned on eBay by a seller in Florida. Although the bids climbed sky-high, they did not reach the seller’s reserve, which must have been astronomical. Here is a link to the closed auction for his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette:

And before you ask, no, it does not come with a moon roof!

For more information on the auction and the car, take a look at this article at Space.com, eBay Auction of Neil Armstrong’s Corvette Ends, But Did It Sell?.

    1. Brian says:

but it does have a FLOATING rear end suspension.

    2. Hmmmmm says:

Even with the cool factor of Armstrong owning the Vette, 250k is a insane number for the condition.
