Lamborghini Countach for $16K?

On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from the previous week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.

Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday November 16, 2012

We are always intrigued to see what our shoppers are looking for, and love discovering new items we hadn’t heard of that are surfaced because of these searches.  One such example happened last week, when the keyword gullwing jumped to the top of our search trends.  We had to wonder if folks were looking for the wooden 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 Gullwing that we mentioned in our story entitled A 1938 Jaguar made out of wood.  But we don’t think so, once we ran across this car, a 1988 Replica/Kit Makes LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH:

The car sold to a lucky bidder for $16,500, which is a steal compared to a real Lamborghini Countach.  As it turns out, though, this isn’t the only one of these Kit Makes on eBay: we found another six listed for sale, at various prices.

Another unusual (at least to us) search was for Kangoo.  The name struck us as referring to a cuddly animal, and we fully expected to enter the term and find multiple listings for cute kangaroos.  It turns out, the Kangoo Jumps are a new type of exercise shoe, specifically made for running and rebounding (thus the name).  Apparently, runners who have bad knees (and most runners, after extended or repeated high-impact workouts, develop bad knees) can use these shoes to lessen the pressure on their knees, joints, and back.  Apparently, these shoes also give you a great workout.  Take a look:

Of course, the other possibility was that the searchers were looking for a Renault Kangoo car, but since we can’t find one on eBay today, we’ll assume searchers wanted the shoes.  We wonder — do the cars bounce too?

Our shoppers were also searching for Mumford and Sons.  For those of you who don’t regularly listen to the radio or have a teenager in the house, the members of Mumford and Sons describe themselves as an English folk rock band.  They recently released an album entitled Babel on September 24, 2012, and are touring to in conjunction with the release.  The search results show numerous venues and seats available for shows, and fans can also browse eBay for CDs, clothing, and much more related to the band and its music.  Basically, you will find everything to please the new Mumford-head in your house.

As expected, our savvy shoppers are getting the jump on Christmas, and we see an increasing amount of searches for various items.  Topping our list this week are searches for LED Christmas lights, the newest green Christmas craze since artificial trees.  Surprisingly, the word shamrock was also being searched on, and we can only wonder if some shoppers are already anticipating St. Patrick’s Day.

One Response to Lamborghini Countach for $16K?

    1. John in San Diego says:

The problem with most of the Countach replicas, particularly those built on the Fiero, is the body proportions end up being a caricature of the original’s svelte design. This yellow example, while appearing to have nice fit and finish, displays this all too loudly.
This is a well documented copy of a Countach a gentleman from Wisconsin:

who built it himself in his basement using exact measurements of the original. Apparently it’s for sale for around $115k? Which is more than the real thing is worth, I think he’s a bit confused…. but the lines of the thing are true to the original, a real beauty.
In the end about $20k is all the market should ever bear for a wannabe of another car. Who do you impress but hillbillies?
