The Avon Foundation for Women charity auction gives you the opportunity to look good and feel good about yourself. The Avon Foundation was founded in 1955 with the goal of improving women’s lives. Their dual mission is to support breast cancer research and provide all patients access to quality care, as well as addressing domestic and gender violence. The Foundation and Honorary Chairman Reese Witherspoon have teamed up with eBay Giving Works to auction various garments from “Avon’s Closet,” with 100% of the proceeds going to the Foundation.
Ms. Witherspoon has been very active with the Foundation for the last three years, raising awareness of its mission to improve the lives of women globally. We love that eBay provides a platform for people to do good work. Often we hear about interesting and fun items on eBay, and we enjoy hearing the stories behind them. But it is also nice to highlight some of these fashionable items, from petite to plus size dresses and gowns to shoes and clutches, that benefit a good cause. Plus, some of the items from “Avon’s Closet” are a real bargain right now!
First up, this gorgeous Hermes tan leather purse:
It is currently going for $405. According to recent Terapeak data (subscription required), in the last 90 days Hermes bags have sold for as much as $62,000! Obviously a lot depends on the bag, the material it is made from, and how rare or collectible it is, but this one seems like a bargain so far. For more information on Hermes bags, take a look at this eBay guide.
Another item that caught our attention was a pair of Christian Louboutin Cream Leather Lace Up Heels:
The first we had ever heard of Christian Louboutin shoes was a couple of weeks ago, when our Weekly Search Trends post identified “shoes” as a trending search term. Although we still have no idea why shoes were such a popular trend, it did make us more aware of designer shoe brands. Of course, the folks over at eBay Fashion have a great sense of style and know that Fall is a time for new shoes, and I could have asked them… but they work in a different part of the building and rarely read these posts.
Take a look at some of the other items up for auction for something that catches your fancy:
- Max Chaoul Paris floor-length cream gown
- Herve Leger red bandage dress
- YSL Beige Satin Jeweled Clutch
- Prada black mesh slingback heels
- Fendi black satin peep toe pump with bow
- Christian Dior red patent leather peep toe pump
We are sure you would look good in any of these lightly-used items to benefit the Avon Foundation.
We got in touch with a representative for the Avon Foundation’s President, Carol Kurzig, who had this to say about the problem of domestic violence generally, and about the auction, specifically:
“One in three women in the U.S. will become a victim of abuse or partner violence in her lifetime and until those statistics change, the Avon Foundation for Women will continue to draw attention to the issue and work to change the course of domestic violence for all victims and their families. We are so pleased to be partnering with eBay to hold the ‘In Avon’s Closet’ auction. Not only does it give bidders access to top designer brands, but the funds raised will benefit domestic violence agencies and survivors throughout the U.S.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, and hope you can join those bidding for a good cause.
