On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from last week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.
Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday September 2, 2011
The announcement that HP was killing off its somewhat popular TouchPad hit the tech world hard, but shoppers on eBay saw it as an opportunity to buy! Searches for HP TouchPad and HP Tablet topped our most searched-for items at one point last week. Then, the fact that people were bidding higher than the TouchPads’ discounted $99 price offended a few people. For example, one enterprising college student created an admittedly “awful” drawing of an HP TouchPad and put it up for sale. He notes in the auction listing that he was “posting this because I see idiots bidding $300 on $99 tablets, and $850 on a $99 tablet running Android–so I figured maybe someone would be dumb enough to bid on my drawing.” Of course, a search for drawing of HP TouchPad also reached the top of our most-searched list one day. People will try to sell anything, but whether folks will actually buy it or not is an entirely different matter.
The approach of Hurricane Irene and subsequent landfall in the Northeast affected our searches as well. At first we saw an increase in searches for generators, specifically Honda Generators and Propane Generators, but later in the week we noticed a spike in searches for Sump Pumps. Aside from that, we saw a surge of interest in rain boots, and a shoe called Bogs suddenly showed up on our list as well. For those of you who don’t know, Bogs started as a provider of classic boots that were completely waterproof, but now have expanded their “line of footwear to be ready for anything that life might bring.” Our shoppers seem to feel that “anything” includes hurricanes!
And speaking of shoes, our shoppers keep searching for them! We are not going to provide a long list like we did a couple of weeks ago, since it just seems to be getting longer. Instead, we’ll point you over to the folks at eBay Fashion who have much more experience in outfitting our fashion-conscious shoppers for Fall. Check out their links to Ankle Booties, Mary Janes, Tall Boots and Menswear-inspired women’s shoes. It is an education in what’s cool to wear this Fall.
Topping our list of sports searches were jerseys for some of our shoppers’ favorite teams. This week the popular NFL teams included the Oakland Raiders, the New Orleans Saints, the Miami Dolphins, and the Chicago Bears.

Yes, I noticed exorbitant price that people are willing to pay for the Hp tablet. These people are fools to be paying that much. I have seen them for sale a little above $100 but then again lucky to those who are able to sell them and make a great profit.
Anyway, I’m glad I came here. I was looking for ideas of products I could sell on eBay. It looks like it’s a good place to start.
re: BOGS
I have a pair off bogs size 12 youths. They are black and in excellent condition. There is a place for your name inside. These were worn during one winter while up Skiing. Just out grown them too fast! I am wishing no one was hit too badly during storms. I live in the eastern shore and I was very lucky the tree that came right out of the ground fell away from house, missing my roof.
Thanks
