eBay Thanks You, Ed Church

Here at eBay Stories, we love hearing about people being reunited with their “lost loves,” in this case items that had special significance that they then rediscovered on eBay.

In fact, this type of story is near and dear to me.  Years ago, when my parents sold their house, they asked family members if they wanted any items from the house, and set about dividing up things between the kids.  I didn’t have a house, or a place to put anything, and all I really wanted was a chair that was in my room.  This wooden chair had lions’ mouths at the end of each arm, a very regal looking chair in my mind.

My sister offered to hang onto the chair for me, but somewhere along the way the movers “misplaced” it, or maybe the lion chair walked off the truck on its own.  Who knows?  To this day, I have a saved search running on eBay, with various key words, hoping someone will list the chair.  Nothing yet.  Maybe one day I can recount a lucky story here too, a testament to the power of using eBay to find what those irreplaceable, sentimental things you are looking for.

So, it was with great pleasure the other day that I wrote the story entitled Lost loves found on eBay, which chronicled the plight of a lost little blue monkey named Ah-ah who was reunited with its owner through a random set of circumstances.  When Ed Church’s story came onto my radar as part of the eBay Thanks You celebration, I knew I would have to feature it here on eBay Stories as well.

In the video, below, Ed explains what happens.  He starts off, “I remember my first bike in Montana.  It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw.”  But Ed sold the bike he loved, and always regretted it.  Then, 32 long years later, there it was on eBay.  He bid on it and… lost!  How does it feel to lose the thing you love twice?

Take a look at the video and find out what happened, in Ed’s own words:

You can see all the video stories of the eBay Thanks You campaign here.  Also, we’ll be featuring more of people’s singular experiences on the eBay Stories blog over the course of the next few weeks, each tagged with “eBay Thanks You.”  If you want to see all the written stories to date, just click here.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a Thank You party without a chance to win something!  To inaugurate this new feature and recognize the contributions of our eBay community, we’ll be offering great deals and prizes for the rest of the month, plus the opportunity to pay it forward by helping us support one of three charities.  Take a look here for all the details, or click on the banner, below.

And thank you for being part of the eBay community!

What a great story on the Harley that got away–and then was found again. I know what it’s like to bid what an item is worth to you and not just what you think the market value might be. Again, great story and thanks for sharing it. Richard (nervous2)

I know first hand how bad it hurts to loose something and wish you could find another one. I have looked for years for a malco tool tray like one I used to have and have not had any luck.It would not mean anything to someone else but it would mean alot to me. One of the main reasons that I actually got a computer and an e bay account was to hopefully find one of these trays.I am so happy for you and I hope that someday I can share my story of finding a link to my past.

I don’t have a lions mouth chair but I do have an eagle headed chair of the same configuration. I’d like to have a match but have never found another like it.
