eBay Motors gets a new paint job

As we alluded in our post entitled The perfect summer sailboat: $62K, the eBay Motors homepage has recently had a facelift, and we wanted to let you know what has changed.  Here is a picture of the new homepage, with some key elements highlighted.

If you can’t remember what the old eBay Motors homepage looked like, check it out here (the link opens in a new window).  As you can see, the new page features many enhancements, while other items on the page have simply shifted location.

Foremost in our changes to the page is a new way to easily find parts and accessories for cars, trucks, and motorcycles.  We call it the eBay Motors Finder; we think you will just call it “useful”:

First, let’s talk about finding parts and accessories for your car or truck.  If you have already saved a car or truck in your My Vehicles (read about the My Vehicles here) page, you can easily choose that vehicle from the drop-down menu.

If you are looking for parts for a new vehicle, simply click the radial button “A new vehicle,” then indicate the year, make, and model you want from the drop-down menu, and click search.

If you want to narrow the search and indicate a particular part or accessory you want for that model, just enter it in the search box provided and click “search parts & accessories.”  The search results page can be as general or as specific as the terms you choose to enter in the parts & accessories “finder.”

As an example, let’s say you search for a new headlight for a 2002 Honda Accord.  From the drop-down menu, under Model Year choose “2002,” under Make choose “Honda,” and under Model choose “Accord.”  Enter the word “headlight” in the search box to narrow your results to headlights for your vehicle.  Should you want to save that vehicle for later, just add it to the “My Vehicles” page by clicking “Add vehicle” on the search results page:

Finding a new car or truck to buy is equally simple.  From the new eBay Motors homepage, go to the “Find a car or truck” section, click  “New” or “Used,” enter the make and model of the vehicle you want to purchase, and click search.  Optionally, you can enter your home zip code to find a car or truck near you.

On the search results page you can further narrow your search to different buying formats: Auctions, Buy it Now, and even Local Classifieds listings.  No matter what you look for, and how you want to buy it, chances are you will find it on eBay.

Use the exact same methodology if you are looking for a motorcycle instead of a car or truck.  Just click the “Motorcycles” tab on the eBay Motors finder, and start your search.

We also are aware that you may not exactly know what you are searching for, and may prefer to browse our vehicle listings.   On the old homepage, the Browse Vehicles by Type was front and center, right at the top of the page.  Now, we simply moved the section a bit lower on the page, as we know folks may prefer to browse by vehicle type.

This section is pretty straightforward: if you know you want an SUV, Minivan, Sedan, or any other featured body type, just click on the photo and “start your engines!”  Each category page you reach gives you more information about that vehicle type, from Green Driving to Collector Cars.

Search or browse.  Car, motorcycle, or truck.  Parts and accessories.  New and used vehicles.  The new eBay Motors homepage brings it all together in one place, allowing you to decide how to use the information

And stay tuned for some other minor changes in the next months.  We will be surfacing easy ways to find and buy boats, RVs, and maybe even golf carts (?!).

Happy motoring.
