Celebrate Easter with new Pope paraphernalia

On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from the previous week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.

Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday March 15, 2013

With a white puff of smoke to make the announcement, a new Pope was elected last week, much to the joy of over 1.2 million Catholics worldwide (and just in time for Easter).  It looks like interest in the new Pope is running at an all-time high, as we saw an immediate spike in the terms Pope Francis and Pope John Paul II, one of his predecessors.  Of course, there are many items on eBay related to his predecessors, but we were surprised to find a number of cool items already available in relation to the new pope.  For example, we saw this Crucifix Blessed by Pope Francis 1:

There is also this ROSARY BLESSED -by NEW POPE FRANCIS JORGE BERGOGLIO ROME 03/13/13 PAPAL CONCLAVE:

It is amazing that both these items, already blessed by His Holiness, managed to make it on to eBay in such a short period of time.  This type of turnaround proves the world is certainly shrinking.

Speaking of Easter, we also saw an upswing in searches for Easter dresses, which led us to this cool page on eBay Fashion:

As you can see, the clever product managers at eBay separated out the most popular styles of Easter dresses, as well as creating direct links to Baby & Toddler dresses, Girls’ dresses, Women’s dresses, and even a section for Baby & Toddler outfits and sets.  Certainly you’ll be able to dress up your girl in her finest on her upcoming Easter visit to Grandma’s house (or wherever holiday you enjoy celebrating!).

The Enigma cypher machine topped our search terms last week as well.  This artifact from the World War II area generated a lot of interest inside and outside eBay.

The item and its fascinating background compelled us to write an eBay story about it, entitled An original Enigma cipher machine from WW II.  If you are a history buff or are interested in cryptography, this story is for you.  The item ended up selling for quite a lot of money, and made our high-value list (below).  We are always on the lookout for interesting and historical items up for sale on eBay – if you know of any, send us an email.
