What is it about golfers’ names? First there was Tiger, and now there’s a professional golfer called Bubba. Not that there is anything wrong with their names, not at all. But they do stand out. What’s interesting is that these two athletes have arguably done more for the sport of golf than any other golfers in recent memory, so maybe there is something to having an unusual and memorable first name. And Bubba Watson has had quite the impressive year.
Probably most significant for the golf world, Bubba won the 2012 Masters Tournament with something of a miraculous shot (more on that later). And most significant on a personal level, he and his wife adopted a baby boy, Caleb, who he absolutely adores – even more than winning the famed green jacket at the Masters. As this article points out, for Bubba family comes first. And finally, for those of us who love auctions, Bubba acquired the General Lee at auction (no, not the one we talked about on our post The General Lee rides again, another General Lee you can read about here).
And the year is not even over yet!
Another thing Bubba cares about deeply is his faith. According to Bubba’s website, he is a devout Christian, and he and his wife share a “passion for philanthropy and dedicate as much time as possible to giving back.” This willingness to give back to charity can be seen in a series of auctions he has running on eBay, where 100% of the proceeds benefit Bright Pink and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Today’s remarkable finds come straight from Bubba to you. Check out this Limited Edition Pink PING G20 Driver signed by Bubba Watson:
This is a PING G20 driver created specifically for Bubba to use during his remarkable 2012 season. The description gives more details:
“Custom paint, matte pink finish PING G20 driver with a True Temper Graffalloy Bi-Matrix hot pink shaft. The driver comes with a letter of authenticity.”
During the 2012 Masters Tournament, fans saw Bubba sporting these hot pink clubs. But that is not all he is auctioning. Take a look at these other items:
- Pink & White PING Visor signed by Bubba Watson
- 2012 Masters Pin Flag signed by champion Bubba Watson
- 2010 Ryder Cup Team Bag Signed by Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods & More!
And that amazing finish at the Masters? Well, suffice to say that during the sudden death overtime, Bubba hit a shot that was, well, miraculous:
Last week, they launched the new Golf Finder:
As you can see, the finder allows you to narrow your search to a specific brand, club type, shaft material, and even flex. Most importantly for left-handed golfers like Bubba Watson, you can sort by dexterity, right- or left-handedness.
But as Robert Browning wrote in A History of Golf, “The trouble that most of us find with the modern matched sets of clubs is that they don’t really seem to know any more about the game than the old ones did.”
One last thing…if you think golfing is for stodgy CEOs and executives, take a look at this video from the Golf Boys featuring Bubba Watson. You may never look at golf (or Bubba) the same way again.
