All Hail The Queen of Country

Although most famous for her career as a country singer, Reba McEntire has also performed on the Broadway stage, acted in films, and starred in television shows, most notably Reba, the sitcom that ran from 2001 to 2007 and garnered her a Golden Globe Award nomination.

So it came as no surprise that the woman known as “The Queen of Country” would nab a spot co-hosting the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1, 2012.  She shared the stage with Blake Shelton, and the two turned out some surprisingly comedic banter during the proceedings.  The video highlight most people saw the next day featured Taylor Swift responding uncomfortably to the following exchange.

McEntire: Well how about the rumor that Tim Tebow went on a date with Taylor Swift?

Swift, in the audience, mouths the word “What?” before shrugging her shoulders.

Shelton: Now we know what he’s been praying for.

As the proceedings wore on, the duo managed to reference Randy Travis’ arrest for a DUI and to lightly roast each other.  McEntire’s best zinger directed at Shelton was, “When I first met you, you were just the life support system for a mullet.”

In the promotional video for the awards show, McEntire let loose with more observations about her co-host.  “He’s a mess…I’m terrified.”  Shelton rather nervously assured people he could hold his own and that McEntire might be just as likely to “drop an F-Bomb on television.”  Watch the two lovingly exchange barbs on this clip, Behind the Scenes with Reba & Blake! CBS Promo Shoot for ACM Awards.

McEntire’s got a decent sense of humor and continues to give roof-raising performances, but audiences of the show also responded to her luxe gown, a cobalt blue dazzler that grazed the toes of her shoes.  In case you missed seeing it during the awards ceremony, here’s your opportunity, with today’s listing,  Reba McEntire ACM Awards Cobalt Silk Dress.

Looking every inch the Queen of Country

It appears McEntire managed to find some spare time between singing, acting, hosting and such, because she helped design this dress.  The listing says:

“The dress was designed by Reba and her stylist Terry Gordon, and then custom made by Universal Studios Couture. It is a size 6 cobalt silk metallic fleck stretch knit with a 2” inch standing band collar, sleeveless raglan cut, and center back zipper. Dress comes with a certificate of authenticity from Starstruck Entertainment, Reba’s management company.”

Is there anything this woman can’t do?  Let’s throw humanitarianism into her bag of tricks, as she is donating all proceeds from this auction to Feeding America.  The organization, which the listing describes as “the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity,” supplies funds to a national network of food banks.  Over 37 million Americans annually benefit from Feeding America’s services, which include the food banks’ distribution of three billion pounds of food per year.  The statistics at the charity’s website elaborate that, for 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a part of their reality.  The organization also strives to raise public awareness about hunger and to work on local and national policies that address the country’s growing hunger crisis.

A current price of $4,250 and 39 bids makes this auction one to follow.  The winner is one step closer to the woman who has churned out enough remarkable music to have a 50 Greatest Hits album.  Honestly, that doesn’t even seem humanly possible, does it?  To have 50 hit songs?  But one of the songs on the album hints at McEntire’s secret to success, and to the message of hope this auction brings: “Let the Music Lift You Up.”
