A New Year, a New You (thanks to celebrity support)

We’re a couple days in to 2013 and everyone is talking about resolutions they are making and breaking.  Fitness and health-related goals are at the top of the list for many people.  If you feel your resolve wavering only a few days in, perhaps it’s time to reframe how you make New Year’s resolutions.

Over at eBay, we had this idea that the turn of the year can do more than spark a change in your habits or your goals.  It can also be about introducing new experiences to daily life, meeting at least some of the goals on the unending bucket list we like to call leading a fulfilling life.  So we have spearheaded the New Year New You campaign, asking you to consider not just make a resolution for 2013, but to begin a transformation.  Because it’s eBay, we gathered some celebrity sports figures, singers, and actors to make your dreams come to fruition.

Here’s how it works.  The old school you on New Year’s Eve might have resolved to play baseball with the pros.  A noble goal, but one that is bound to involve some disappointment unless you are at the top of your game and have the time and resources for intensive training.  Sadly, not even an eBay auction can transform a mere mortal’s game into the level of a pro.  Instead, eBay is affording you the opportunity to bid on the  Barry Zito Ultimate Baseball Fan Experience – Tickets, Meet the Players + more:

Join the three-time All Star, former Cy Young Award winner, and pitcher for the 2012 World Champion San Francisco Giants for an experience that includes:

“  – Two Field Level seats to San Francisco Giants game during 2013 Memorial Day Weekend. Game will be on Sunday, May 26th, and the Giants will be playing the Colorado Rockies.

- Pre-game visit to field for meet and greet with players.

- Pre-game visit to watch batting practice.

- Two round-trip Virgin America or United Airlines coach tickets and hotel accommodations for one-night at Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square in San Francisco.”

Zito is more than a sports hero, he is also a philanthropist.  In 2005, he founded Strikeouts For Troops, a non-profit organization that asks major athletes to donate their time to comfort injured American service members and their families during critical times in their lives.

If organized sports do not tempt you, perhaps you are the type to make a resolution concerning fame.  Plenty of people say this is the year their band will make it, and they will finally attain rock ‘n’ roll superstar status.  While eBay can’t promise you’ll take the stage, we can place you near those who have.  Consider bidding on this Wine Tour & Tasting plus Meet & Greet with Fergie at Ferguson Crest Vineyard:

This winery visit is significant, because it turns out Fergie has her hands in the winemaking business.  The listing elaborates:

“Eight-time Grammy Award Winning Artist Fergie is known worldwide for her chart-topping hits, but many people do not know that the pop icon also has her hands in the winemaking business. Fergie pursued a passion project several years ago, founding Ferguson Crest wine with her family, and this holiday season she is donating the opportunity of a lifetime for one fellow wine connoisseur. The winning bid will fully support amfAR while landing that lucky person and a guest a VIP vineyard tour, a private wine tasting, and a special meet up with Fergie herself at her family’s winery in California’s beautiful Santa Ynez Valley.”

As the listing notes, this is also a charity auction, with the proceeds benefiting amfAR, a foundation that, since its beginning in 1985, has sought to end the global AIDS epidemic.  The organization supports innovative research by funding scientific development rapidly, where it is needed most.

Among the other celebrities involved in the New Year New You series of charity auctions are CC Sabathia, Tracy Anderson, Avicii, and Bubba Watson (there will be more coverage of that auction later this week, here on eBay Stories).

In his song “Changes,” David Bowie sings,

A million dead-end streets and

Every time I thought I’d got it made

It seemed the taste was not so sweet

Change, while inevitable, can also be incredibly challenging to engineer.  Our celebrity auctions make the experience taste sweeter.
