Actor Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, after completing the movie Doc Hollywood. He once said this about the disease: ”I have no choice about whether or not I have Parkinson’s. I have nothing but choices about how I react to it. In those choices, there’s freedom to do a lot of things in areas that I wouldn’t have otherwise found myself in.” One of the ways he chose to react to being diagnosed with the disease was to become a passionate advocate for Parkinson’s research, establishing a research foundation in his name.
In a recent segment of the Ellen DeGeneres show, Michael estimated that in the last 13 years the foundation has raised over $300 million dollars for Parkinson’s research. During that segment, Ellen surprised Michael with a cherry red custom Gibson guitar, and said she wanted to help raise more money for his foundation with an auction on eBay.
