A converted ’62 Porsche coupe BBQ

When you think of cars and movies, what comes to mind? For many people it is going to the classic Drive-in movie theater, watching the bigger-than-life action on a huge screen with a tiny tinny radio attached to your car. For others it could be classic scenes from movies that feature cars, such as the DeLorean in the Back to the Future, the Aston Martin DB5 from various James Bond films, or even the sweet Porsche 928 in Risky Business. But what if you could watch a movie in a converted 1962 Porsche coupe? Sure, you’re thinking, just whip out a portable DVD player, find a Porsche 356, and there you have it… But to one industrious eBay seller, it means something completely different.

Enter the 1962 Porsche 356 Coupe Car-BQ. You may never think about cars, movies, and backyard barbecues (?) the same way again.

From this angle it looks like half a Porsche

The listing describes it as “(o)ne of a kind for the man who has everything or wants everything. Took 10 years to complete with no expense spared. Comes with 32 inch flat screen t.v., blue ray, 8 speaker surround sound system. Done to look authentic.”

In this case, you could tow the Car-BQ to your house, a friend’s house, or even the local park, set up to watch a movie on the flat screen TV, and barbecue, all in one place and on one of the coolest-looking portable barbecues ever. There is even a retractable table that seats four people, a spot for an ice chest, and “stainless steel BBQ utensils included.” Take a look:

Retractable folding table seats four.

While this auction has ended and the reserve was not met, we are hoping the Car-BQ will come up for auction again. We would hate to have to settle for a barbecue made by Porsche designs (even if it was set up next to an outdoor TV to watch movies) instead of a Car-BQ made from a classic Porsche. And as the seller notes, his Car-BQ comes with a clear 1962 title.

As Joel Goodson says in the movie Risky Business: “Porsche. There is no substitute.”

    1. How does the heat from the BBQ not affect the TV and stuff behind it?

    2. eBay-Stories.com says:

@Erik – that is a really good question! I think there must be a large amount of insulation between the trunk and the TV, so the heat does not affect the electronics. The best way to find out for sure, though, is to get in touch with the seller, rum-runner-56, and see what he says. I have to say, that question didn’t even occur to me when I was writing the post.

WELL, IS IT GOOD ON GAS???

    4. Rich says:

Grilling would ruin it. I would have made it furniture or a wall art. To keep it in prestine condition. Grilling has lots of smoke and tremendous amount of heat. Not sure of the price but would pay alot for a outdoor grill.

    5. David Sawyer says:

The BBQ is not in the Porsche trunk. The trunk is in the front of the car and you are seeing the engine compartment.

Some people have too much money and no brains!

Awesome design and Top Notch QUALITY Work – I want a Shelby One !!!! Get Me One Someday Hey!!!!!!

    10. Rob says:

This looks great! However I don’t think you could use it without sacraficing the paint. Even high temp paint used on grills does’nt do that great of a job holding up to the intense heat of a grill.

    11. Pretty good execution but I agree with the others. A removable ice chest and BBQ would be better then the built-in BBQ as it would throw off too much heat and oily smoke and eventually ruin everything else. If the BBQ came out and had a similar size cooler this would be optimal for taking to events and tailgating. Of all the crazy jobs we have gotten as a custom sheet metal shop something like this has yet to come up…..yet.

    12. Don Starbird says:

DARN! if they had not already thrown the other half away, I have plans that would convert the front half into a bed complete with clothes storage and a sink!
Imagine that – Your own tow behind BED & BREAKFAST! – Oh well, then someone would put a big “W” on the side of it and call it their “Micro” version. LOL

    13. Baljma says:

Well no one said it was in the trunk, only in the boot which means the back the front is refered to as the bonnet. So, since as you say the engine is in the boot of the Porsche then that solves the problem of how the electronics don’t overheat, the engine compartment is insulated. Great Job!

    14. Denis says:

US $7,100.00 for a useless grill, look like the economy is not affecting everyone.

    15. Ron N says:

BBQ? That ain’t a BBQ!! – THIS … is a BBQ!! (apologies to Mick Dundee)……
