What does an aging rock and roller do once “School’s Out” forever? Alice Cooper goes to Arizona to play golf, apparently. But if you are going to play golf, what better way than to arrive in style? Sure, some people might choose something ostentatious, but not Alice Cooper. No, instead he arrives to golf in a nondescript 1964 Citroen ID19:
Now old Citroen cars had a bit of a bad reputation for being unreliable and/or breaking down, even though their slogan “Créative Technologie” (creative technology, in English) seemed to imply the exact opposite. There is speculation, though, that the reputation was undeserved, and folks opined that “it’s not so much that they had a bad reputation, as that there were some bad owners.” We previously wrote about this 1971 Citroen Ami 8 wagon, and it seemed quite the road warrior.
By the looks of this car, though, it has neither a bad reputation nor a bad owner. In fact, we’d like to think the owner made some interesting modifications that make this car completely unique. From the listing:
“With over 300k invested in upgrades the exterior looks the same as the classic French ID19 model(plus a few modifications), but its engine, suspension and chassis have all been reworked into a powerful and performance driving American Hot Rod. These performance enhancements include LS Corvette engine, Art Morrison chassis, new suspension, 18 inch performance tires and upgraded chrome wheels.
It has been featured 2 times in Hot Rod Magazine. It was dubbed by the magazine as the “Dare to be different” hot rod in the March 2007 issue.
Distinguishing features include:
400+ HP powered by a new LS1 Corvette crate motor
Full custom roll cage
Rear wheel drive
Fully adjustable upgraded independent suspension built to handle the added HP
Interior features custom grey leather interior, dash gauges, LED lighting, stereo steering wheel plus more.
Frame custom built by Art Morrison to withstand speeds well over 200
Performance Wilwood disc brakes added to handle the increased power and speed capabilities of this car
Exterior custom paint is Volvo 457 Flash Green with white pearl accents
Mustang II geometry front suspension and four link rear suspension
Custom Billet Specialties chrome wheels
New AC and heat”
To top it off, as previously mentioned, this car has been driven by “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Alice Cooper on multiple occasions to play golf and he absolutely loves the car.” In fact, the winner of this auction will also receive a guitar and tour photo autographed by Alice Cooper, as well as two tickets to Alice Cooper’s annual holiday Christmas Pudding show! If that weren’t enough, you (and a friend) can also play a round of golf with Alice Cooper in Arizona… and you could ask him about the infamous “chicken incident.”
For a bit of retro fun, here’s Alice way back in 1972 playing School’s Out. Enjoy!
