A $120K car autographed by Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man

Director of Excitement.  How would you like that title on your resume?  Well, we are sorry to tell you that you can’t have it, because the position has been awarded to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.

He certainly has the qualifications for the job.  After winning three gold medals at Beijing’s Olympic Games, he went on to run record times for the 100-meter and 200-meter races.  He scored another gold medal at London’s Summer Olympic Games for running 100 meters in 9.63 seconds.

While the races at the Olympics were thrilling, a truly breathtaking race is the one at the 2009 IAAF World Championship in Berlin, where Bolt set the world record for the 100-meter race.

You may be wondering how Bolt wound up with the position of Director of Excitement.  It turns out that Nissan bestowed this title to the world-class athlete.  The backstory is that Nissan has partnered with Usain Bolt to auction off this 2013 Nissan GT-R Custom:

The shimmering metallic hue of this custom car is no accident.  The listing poses the question, “What if you could own Usain Bolt’s gold medal?”

Here is some more pertinent information from the listing:

“Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt and the Nissan GT-R® are both known for their unforgettable performances on the world stage. On October 11, 2012, Nissan brought the two together when it unveiled the gold GT-R®, in honor of their new Director of Excitement—Mr. Bolt. Now, all the power, speed and performance of this unique supercar—painted in Bolt Gold—could be yours.

With 550PS* and a torque of 632Nm/3200-5800rpm*. It also has a revolutionary 4WD system that makes it the supercar that anyone can drive.”

Sometimes video clips speak louder than words, so we giving you the unveiling of this gorgeous vehicle, featuring Bolt speaking about the vehicle and the charity the auction benefits, plus you also get to watch the athlete autograph the hood.

As mentioned, the proceeds from the sale of this car benefit the Usain Bolt Foundation.  The foundation’s website summarizes its mission as “creating opportunities through education and cultural development for a positive change.”  Specific projects that have been spearheaded or supported by the Usain Bolt Foundation include the United Way’s work in Jamaica, the renovation of a health center, and pediatric cardiac services at Bustamante Hospital for Children.  All worthy causes, to be sure, but you might find bidding on this item a little difficult as the first and only bid is for $120,000. [Update: it is now at $169,100.99 $173,400.00 Sold for $187,100.00!)

Not to worry, there are far more affordable items available, also autographed by Bolt, including racing helmets, T-shirts, a baseball cap, Puma driving boots worn by Bolt, a Puma racing suit worn by Bolt, and a leather jacket.  See images and descriptions for all these items at the ebay Nissan Gold GTR Auction Cause homepage.

After competing and placing at back-to-back Olympic Games, Bolt said, “”It’s what I came here to do.  I’m now a legend.  I’m also the greatest athlete to live.  I’ve got nothing left to prove.”  It seems, however, that Bolt is seeking to prove himself in a new realm—that of public service.  eBay is proud to provide a platform for this Olympic star to shine.

Marketing thing. Tax write off of the bidders. Charity isn’t always about the needy. Usually to take advantage of current taxes.
