On this page we catch up with and diagnose the search trends on eBay from the previous week. We get our information by matching the top 20 items spiking daily in search trends from eBay itself with other topics currently being searched on outside the eBay walls.
Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday January 18, 2013
It’s good to see a trend that restores your faith in (a part of) humanity. As I mentioned last week, search trends from the early part of the year included various pieces of exercise equipment, but this category of queries dwindled down to nothing pretty quickly. Had everyone already abandoned their healthy New Year’s resolutions? It seemed to be so, until last week, when suddenly all sorts of exercise equipment were being searched for yet again. Searches for exercise bikes, treadmills, and Reebok shoes ranked very high all week, while something called a kettlebell also popped up. In case you don’t know, a kettlebell is a weight that looks like a cannonball with a handle, and it is used for strength and cardiovascular training. Given the weight of the object in question, you would be wise to find an eBay seller offering free shipping (which more and more sellers do these days!). In keeping with the times, heart rate monitors also zoomed to the top of our weekly search list.
Our choice car search of the week revealed this 1965 Shelby Other COBRA CSX, which sold for $108,000 and made our top value list (see below):
This isn’t the first time a 1965 Shelby Cobra has made our top searched list. In May last year we wrote about this rare 40th Anniversary Shelby Cobra (read about it here), which ended up selling for $140,000. The one we are featuring today is not as rare, but the seller thinks they make a good investment. From the listing:
“The genuine Carroll Shelby-built CSX continuation series cars are extremely collectible and a solid automotive investment, if the Cobras that go across the auction block today are any indication of what will happen to the value of this car, then this Cobra looks to be a tremendous investment.”
If you are worried you will miss the next Shelby Cobra, set up a saved search to ensure you’ll find exactly what you are looking for before someone else snaps it up. Read more about how to do it here. Once you save a search, you can get the latest search results from My eBay or get search results automatically by email. Oh, and you can use this feature for anything, not just cars…
It seems a number of people received an iPad mini for Christmas, because suddenly we have seen an increase in searches for iPad mini cover and iPad mini screen protector. Given that Apple’s stock has been brutalized in these last few weeks because of rumors that demand for their products has fallen, this arbitrary indication on eBay shows that maybe people should be buying Apple stock, rather than selling it. I guess we’ll know on January 23rd, when Apple reports earnings. If they are stellar, remember: you read it here first!
